Thought Press Project

In 2021, I was approached by a fellow lino print artist, Sanira Emon (a.k.a Paper Fight Art), to be part of a national project, comprising of 100 lino and wood-cut artists, called Thought Press Project. The project aims to raise money for two charities which varies from year to year. The charities are described at the bottom of each section and you can click on the name to learn more. I have been a keen member of this project since it began and have been creating and donating original art based on the starting points that were given by TPP. I have documented my process for each year below.

Thought Press Project

A Charity Fundraising Project

~ 2021 ~

The starting point was "Childhood Memories and Imagination". So I instantly thought back to when I used to holiday every year to Cornwall or Devon with my family and I always enjoyed exploring the rock pools in hope of finding a crab! Which lead me to the design for my lino print…

I have used Cranfield Colours Safe Wash ink on hand torn A5 banana paper, which I thought added another dimension to the overall image as the texture and details of the paper reminded me of seaweed.

The money raised from this year’s project went to Mind, for supporting mental health issues, and Heart Felt Tips, for providing art materials and enabling creative learning opportunities for children.

~ 2022 ~

The starting point was "Gardening and Food Growing". I’ve always been drawn to bees, they’re such lovely creatures and I find it fascinating that Honey Bees can make perfect hexagons and that Bumblebees can fly with such tiny wings! Watching them hop from flower to flower is something I’ve always enjoyed and this is what inspired my print design for this year’s starting point.

I have used Cranfield Colours Safe Wash ink on handmade A5 Lokta paper.

The money raised from this year’s project went to Trussell Trust, for supplying aid for food banks, and Edible Rotherhithe, a community food growing, gardening and arts charity.

~ 2023 ~

The starting point was "Animal Magic". I initially played around with the idea of mythical creatures from Greek or Roman mythology but this didn’t inspire me enough. I then went back to the initial starting point and the idea of a cat and a cauldron popped into my head! This lead me to the design for my lino print “Cat and Cauldron”.

I have used Cranfield Colours Safe Wash ink on A5 Ho-Sho paper.

The money raised from this year’s project goes to Magic Breakfast, for delivering breakfasts to schools, and Edible Rotherhithe, a community food growing, gardening and arts charity.
