Print Day In May

Print Day in May, the first Saturday in May, celebrates the art and community of printmaking. It’s a day to get together in studios across the world to make prints.

As my first ever entry for Print Day in May i thought i would search through some old sketchbooks to gain some inspiration. Especially as i only decided the night before that i would partake!
I found a sketch that instantly brought back the memory behind it which was the huge rain cloud over a house on a hill. I remember driving back to my little village and in the distance i could see a huge black rain cloud with the rain falling straight down and it was like nothing i’ve ever seen before! So i drew it down in my sketchbook before the memory faded.

Once i had this coppied onto the lino i began carving…

Every Cloud

This is the lino block carved out and ready to be inked for the first time.

After carefully cutting the lines out i began the printing process using Cranfield Colours black ink and Gold ink.

The final image turned out great and i am so proud of myself to have produced this in under a day! When i produce more of these i will probably separate the gold part of the block from the black to make it easier to ink as i just used a masking technique for a quick print!
